Migrate from 2007 to 2010

There are two separate release lines of Ontolica: one for SharePoint 2007 platform and one for SharePoint 2010 platform. Some of the visible changes between releases are different
versions of Ontolica dll files and different look and feel of the user interface. Underneath, there are several major changes in the code to embrace the updated SharePoint platform.
For these reasons, when upgrading SharePoint, Ontolica needs to be upgraded as well to the appropriate release line.

Depending on the situation you will be able to uninstall/overwrite the SP2007 version of Ontolica BEFORE or AFTER you upgrade SharePoint to 2010.

If you CAN uninstall Ontolica before upgrading SharePoint (in-place SharePoint upgrade):
1. Delete Ontolica Search Centers using SharePoint standard options: Search Center > Site Actions > Site Settings > Delete this site.
2. Delete OntolicaStyles library at the site collection level: using SharePoint Designer or directly in SharePoint.
3. Restore default settings for search tabs at the site collection level: Site Actions > Site Settings > Ontolica Search Tabs > Drop-down on a Search Tab > Restore Default Settings.
4. Uninstall Ontolica using installer corresponding to the currently installed version of Ontolica.
5. (Optional) Manually clean-up Ontolica files still present in the system, e.g. dll files and xml configuration files.
6. Upgrade SharePoint to 2010.
7. Install the latest Ontolica for SharePoint 2010. You can find the Ontolica Suite installation package marked with “SP2010” on this support site.
8. Deactivate and activate Ontolica features at both farm level and at the site collection level. Set your proper license as active. Activate Ontolica Search Box if used.
9. Create Ontolica Search Centers as needed.

If you CAN NOT uninstall Ontolica before upgrading SharePoint (database attach SharePoint upgrade):
1. Note the URLs of Ontolica Search Centers to access the page options directly, to delete centers after the upgrade of SharePoint.
2. Upgrade SharePoint to 2010.
