The Ontolica result sorting feature enables the SharePoint Search Result Web Part to sort results by any of several criteria. For example, you might sort results by relevance, date or author.

Use the Sort Results By setting to establish the way that results will be sorted when the page first loads. The choices provided here correspond to the set of sorting properties defined for the search tab that applies to the current page.

The Search Summary Web Part may also provide controls that enable users to decide how to sort results, thereby overriding the default settings here. If this is enabled, then the control will include a link for each available sorting property. See “Ontolica Search Summary Web Part” for details about how to enable this feature.

Each property that you wish to use for sorting results must be configured as a sorting property. See “Sorting Properties” for details about how to establish these.
